First I opened up the hat in a seperate photoshop file. Next I used the rectangular marquee tool to select the image. After the image was selected I used the magic wand tool to deselect the surroundings. I selected a mask and went back and got some of the areas I missed. I copied and pasted the hat into the donkey file and created a mask of the hat. Finally I used the brush tool to erase parts of the hat to expose the donkey’s ears.
